I was totally looking forward to attending ACJC's 122nd Founder's Day Thanksgiving Service today. It would have been a great chance to meet up with fellow batchmates a year after we received our A Level results, and to meet the teachers who made my achievements possible.

Two days before the event, a terrorist screwed up all my plans.

I shan't elaborate about the operations my unit has been involved in since Thursday (we were activated at 1am in the morning), but I can definitely say that I am absolutely pissed with Mas Selamat Kastari for screwing up everything. So instead of going on stage to receive a medal and having reception in the Viewing Gallery of ACJC, I was activated to stand at the main gate of the Istana in my ceremonial wear because the rest of my platoon had quite a field day yesterday and deserve some rest today.

Sad? Very.

Foul mood? Gets worse every second I think about the terrorist or see his face.

And now my unit is on stand-by, 24/7, until the wanted man is found. Which, I predict, will never happen, at least in Singapore.

...

...Screw the terrorist.

I wipe the dust off the cover of this "Half-A'LiveJournal'" and open it to find my last entry more than 4 months old. I admit: I have neglected. Many interesting things in my life now (or the lack of it on some days) have kept me away from here. I'm back again because I noticed some of my platoon mates have LiveJournals too.

So what's up with my current life? It's been 5 months since I first took up my position as an Istana ceremonial guard, and I've grown to like the job, partly because I get to be away from camp. But I'm gradually getting used to the things going on in camp too, e.g. drill lessons and unarmed combat lessons. I know, my friends brand me a "non-human" for even thinking of going for these lessons, but, hey, since it's compulsory, why not make the best of it?

I'm also doing dancing as an alumni for ACSian Theatre again. A-ha, the familiar work of promoting ACSian Theatre productions (and SELLING TICKETS...) again! I'm dancing for ACSian Theatre's upcoming production, PRIDE & PREJUDICE. It will be staged from April 24th to April 26th at the DBS Arts Centre - Home of the Singapore Repertory Theatre (on Merbau Road, i.e. near Robertson Quay - not to be mistaken with the DBS Auditorium). Do come and show your support and be treated to a live theatre show of this very popular Jane Austen novel. Tickets are selling now - gather your friends and leave a comment or message me for tickets!

Once again, the details are as follows:
ACSian Theatre presents: PRIDE & PREJUDICE
Date & Time: 24th - 26th April 2008, 8pm; 26th April 2008, 2pm
Venue: DBS Arts Centre - Home of the Singapore Repertory Theatre
Visit
http://www.acsiantheatre.com/ for more details.

That's all for now. I hope to update this journal more often. :)

You know you have wasted away your current affairs knowledge while in NS when you read a headline, "Rice in the Middle East", and think that some country has offered rice as aid to the Middle East. Then you see Condoleeza Rice.

I am a contact lens virgin.

Thanks to my new posting to the Presidential Guard platoon of MP Enforcement Unit, I've got to do sentry duty at the Istana for at least 10 days every month, and I can't wear spectacles for this. Sigh...couldn't evade the contact lens for long anyway.

It was surprisingly fast. I visited this optician in Jurong West near where I used to live. The whole process probably took about 30 minutes - partly because I was able to learn putting on and taking off contacts fast. And to think I will take 4 hours to do it, like a friend of mine in camp.

Look ma, no specs!

MariƩ Digby is this Asian-looking gal who got famous when she posted her own accoustic rendition of Rihanna's "Umbrella" and got people talking. She has since gone on TV shows and radio with her recorded single of "Umbrella". Here's an original song she wrote which I quite like - "Stupid For You". Check out her other songs on YouTube too, including the original "Umbrella" which she recorded on YouTube. :)

An award-winning advertisement for the Honda Accord. One of the best ads I've seen in my life, and it still sticks in my memory.

Anyway, just returned from my 24-hour guard duty at Mowbray Camp. Strangely enough, I may feel a little tired, but I'm not sleepy. I can't wait to book in tonight.

I caught ACSian Theatre's mega production of "West Side Story" last night at the DBS Arts Centre. Though the product didn't hit the "perfect" level, it was an extremely good effort by the cast and crew. The set may seem a little cluttered and messy, but they paint the perfect setting for the show. The dancing may seem just a little messy (due to different levels of experience within the cast), but the choreographer is to be praised for keeping to the original style of the Broadway musical. The live band may be missing, but the wonderful arrangement and singing makes up for the atmosphere. And finally, the cast may be made up of mainly teenagers who are not even 20, but their energy and commitment to the work they do are to be applauded. How I wish I was on stage doing all the prancing and singing and acting with them. Then again, I can always wait till I ORD. :)

Once again, congratulations to everybody involved in "West Side Story"! :)

"You're so brown/black/tanned/chao-tar/__________*!"

*Delete where appropriate, or fill in the blank

That was the standard first-liners from my friends when I went back to ACJC yesterday to collect my A Level results.

And to those who asked about NS, I have my standard reply ready too: "Fantastic!"

It's great seeing everyone back and looking either gorgeous (most of the gals) or very tanned like me (for the other recruits).

So ACJC didn't do as well as last year's batch in passes, but we definitely set a record for the number of candidates with minimum 3 As for our college. For myself, 7 distinctions came as a surprise; I wasn't expecting a good grade for my GP and my S Papers. I guess all that studying paid off after all.

Congrats to everyone who got the grades they wanted. For everyone else, life goes on eh?

Which reminds me, I still have NS to go through. Grah.

So The Golden Country has ended and Post-Production Syndrome has sunk in again. This time, I haven't fallen sick yet, but it's the thought that it may be a few more years before I get an opportunity to do anything with ACSian Theatre again. I can't deny that the time I've spent in ACSian Theatre has been the most rewarding throughout my life so far, and I'll definitely miss all the people whom I have worked with in this two years.

In a few days' time I'll be enlisting into NS. God knows what's in store for me.
